Danhostel Copenhagen Amager care about the environment and YOU!

    Joy Smith

Not only is Danhostel Copenhagen Amager located in green surroundings, they think green. Their mission is to maintain an environmentally friendly and sustainable hostel. They have chosen to be a climate partner with DONG Energy because they realise how much they and future generations will benefit from sustainability.

Danhostel Copenhagen Amager's decision to go green indicates their willingness to accept the challenges involved and do their part to tackle some of the environmental issues which affect our planet. They, therefore, decided to set some specific goals. The took a critical look at energy consumption and opted to rely on renewable energy, including, but not limited to offshore wind farms.

The hosts at Danhostel Copenhagen Amager believe in setting goals so they think both short and long term. Many of their goals are up and running have already made a positive impact on the environment. Here are some of what they have done and continue to do:

    • Installed energy-saving bulbs in most areas
    • Sort and recycle waste
    • Use low-flush toilets
    • Installed water-saving showers
    • Provide water-saving taps
    • Manage heat usage
    • Use environmentally friendly district heating
    • Installed room sensors in corridors and bathrooms
    • Use environmentally friendly cleaning products
    • Clean bedding, towels and other textiles at an environmentally-approved laundry
    • Installed environmentally friendly pumps
    • Use a CO2-neutral website

Danhostel Copenhagen Amager’s core values include responsibility to our world. In the spring of 2014, a brand new solar cell system which covers most of their electricity needs was installed and that has significantly reduced their CO2 emissions, while at the same time providing ample heat and light for all guests.
