Welcome to Danhostel Sønderborg City. We are situated in beautiful green surroundings within walking distance of the pedestrian street and have modern facilities to fit all guests. There are 48 comfortable rooms, each with a private bathroom. Sønderborg, one of the most charming southern towns, is a lively trading area located just 25 km from the German border. The town is rich with historical legacies and monuments. Sønderborg also houses countless educational institutions and industries. Take, for example, Danfoss, Denmark’s biggest enterprise, plus many sub-industries within the engineering and agriculture sector. Sønderborg has many old traditions. One of them is the annual festival, Tilting at the Ring, where riders compete on horseback and party together afterwards. Thousands of spectators come to enjoy this spectacular event held four days each July.
The Dybbøl Mill, Dybbøl Banke History Centre, Sønderborg Castle and the History Centre are all symbols of the intrigue and fascination present in this famous border area. The last weekend of June each year, Kampen om Als reminds visitors of the war of 1864. Join the procession through Sønderborg, the soldier camp in Kær Vestermark and the live play involving both children and adults.
If you would like additional activities, spend a day at Universe, the amusement and science park. Here you will use your senses when you explore the park's many exciting entertainments. Danhostel has two accommodations in Sønderborg - one in the town centre and the other in the rural area called Vollerup. There is also a large Danhostel in Rinkenæs. All 3 locations are close to the border with Germany and are good starting points for a holiday in South Jutland.
