Ribe, Denmark's oldest town, is beautifully situated in Southwest Jutland, close to the marshlands, Ribe River, Kammerslusen and the Wadden Sea National Park. The town's landmark, Ribe Cathedral, dating back to the early 1100s, rises majestically over everything in Ribe. From our hostel, it is only a 5-minute walk to the Cathedral, which has a 52-m high tower from which you can view the town and the National Park. Ribe was named Denmark's Best Coastal Town, got 2 stars in the Michelin Guide, and in 2014, won the title of Europe's most beautiful Small Town. Every year, this beautiful market town receives thousands of visitors from all over the world, who come to experience its wonderful atmosphere.
While in Ribe, visit Ribe Viking Museum and Ribe Viking Centre to see how the Vikings lived. Lonely Planet calls Ribe “the Jewel in Jutland’s Viking Crown,” because of its rich Viking history. In addition, experience the Wadden Sea Centre, Baltic tours in winter, and mudflat walks in the summer. During the summer months, the charming square around the Cathedral is almost a replica of the Mediterranean atmosphere with cafes and restaurants. Wadden Sea National Park offers great natural beauty. It is visited annually by 10 to 12 million migratory birds in an unforgettable display during spring and autumn known as Sort Sol, where millions of starlings fly off into the sunset. Take a seal or oyster safari, visit Denmark's oldest provincial museum, Mandø Mill, or follow the singing Night Watchman from May to October, as he makes his rounds through the town. Here is an opportunity to view the many well-preserved and protected houses on his route.
Stay at Danhostel Ribe in Denmark's oldest town, which has received numerous awards, and probably exudes the best atmosphere in all of Jutland.
